About EME4010
Distance education means so much to me as it is the only reason I'm able to pursue an education as a student with disabilities who does not have access to traditional educational environments. I hope to incorporate what I learned about distance education in this course and distance education as a whole into the Icelandic higher education system and, after that, the whole school system in Iceland to increase access to education for people like me as it is currently inaccessible. I learned so much in this course, and it has been one of my favorite courses at UF so far. Firstly, I learned about the history of distance education, which I think will be extremely valuable to me in my advocacy work in the future as it shows that distance education was born to provide access to people who had previously been denied access to educational spaces and/or opportunities. This is something that I did not know before taking the course and it will probably be the thing that stands out to me most in this course. The poster I created in the History and Scope module highlighted the timeline of distance education and I hope that I can use it beond this course to show faculty and others the role distance education has played in increasing access to education throughout history. Secondly, I will use the work I did in this course as the basis for my final project at UF. Moreover, my final project at UF will be implementing a course for university faculty in Iceland on how to make more accessible courses so that students with disabilities or students in other minority populations can have access to higher education in Iceland, so the work I did in this course is extremely valuable. Thirdly, it helped me build my skills as a future instructional designer, which will help me assist faculty in Iceland in increasing the accessibility of the courses that they offer in the universities in Iceland.
