Future of Education
Reflection
The future of education is equity, equality, accessibility, inclusivity, and diversity. My plan as a future education technologist is to reform education in Iceland in a broad way. My main goal is to specialize in instructional design so that I can design courses at universities in Iceland to be high-quality online courses accessible to everyone, which will increase accessibility and diversity at the universities. I plan on then going into the 11th-13th grade system (menntaskólar) and making the same changes there after they have been successfully implemented at the university level. While this is happening, I plan on slowly making and adding courses at the University of Iceland and becoming a teacher there so that I can give students the opportunity to become institutional designers in Iceland. Then I want to focus on health literacy in K-12 education (which is my original goal and true passion) and create a health literacy curriculum for K-12 education that enables students to make informed decisions, lead healthy lives, and overcome adversities. This will ensure equity, inclusivity, and equality in terms of access to health education and information for children in Iceland. Moreover, this curriculum will serve as the primary health prevention program in Iceland. So, in short, I don't think about how my work will fit into the future of education in Iceland; I like to think that my work will reform and shape the future of education in Iceland.
I have dedicated my life's work towards creating a curriculum that provides children with the coping strategies I got at Barnahús and creating an education system that builds diverse students up instead of beating them down. For the sake of students and children like me, I hope I succeed because if I don't stand up for others, I'm just like someone else who didn't stand up for me.
